International Symposium on Fertility Preservation: From basic research to clinical applications
We had two reasons for organizing the International Symposium on Fertility Preservation which took place February 28th – March 1st in Manipal, India. First, we thought this would create a platform for experts from different disciplines to understand the need of fertility preservation as fertility preservation has still not gained much attention in India.
The second reason is to initiate and promote cutting edge research in Oncofertility as research in this area is still in its infancy and awaits more focus in India. Hence, we believed that this meeting helps in identifying research gaps, explore collaboration, identify new projects and strengthen research in this area.
There were about twenty special invited lectures spread over nine scientific sessions on different aspects of fertility preservation and a panel discussion. Experts from Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Pediatrics, Andrology, Embryology and Basic science have attended and made this event truly interdisciplinary. In addition, young researchers and students were also presented their results in the poster sessions.
Global partnership with the Oncofertility Consortium created a platform for us to hold this meeting in Manipal. This partnership gave more visibility to this meeting and attracted delegates from all over the world. Though Dr. Woodruff could not attend the meeting due to prior commitments, we are thankful to her and OC for constant encouragement and support.
