The LAMOFOPA, coordinated by Dr. José Ricardo de Figueiredo, PhD and Dr. Ana Paula Ribeiro Rodrigues, PhD, was founded in 1995, and is part of the laboratory complex of the Post-graduate program in Veterinary Science (PPGCV), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, State University of Ceará (UECE- Fortaleza-Ceara-Brazil) and the Northeast Biotechnology Network (RENORBIO). Moreover, since 2008 is the headquarter laboratory of the Research Network for the artificial ovary studies.
The LAMOFOPA team conducts research aiming at the development of the reproductive biotechnology named MOEPF (Manipulation of Oocytes enclosed in Ovarian Pre-antral Follicles), especially for small ruminants. In the caprine species, LAMOFOPA team has attained leadership position worldwide, with the laboratory with the highest volume of scientific publications in international journals in the area (preantral follicle manipulation). Recently, studies have been done also on bovine, feline, canine, porcine and equine species. During its 19 years of existence, the LAMOFOPA have contributed to the training of human resources (Brazilian and foreign students/professionals) resulting in the production of 46 dissertations and 29 PhD thesis.
