Monash Institute of Medical Research-Prince Henry's Institute: As one of Melbourne’s top medical research institutes and the research hub of the Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP), MIMR-PHI scientists and clinicians are at the forefront of discovery and translational research. Partnerships with Monash Health and Monash University have uniquely positioned the Institute to directly translate important discoveries into patient treatments and to research those issues identified in the clinic.
Yogeshwar (Yogesh) Makanji PhD, is the Head of the Ovarian Microenvironment Group at the Centre for Genetic Diseases, MIMR-PHI Institute. From 2011-2013, Dr. Makanji was a visiting research scholar in Prof. Teresa Woodruff’s laboratory where he gained the expertise in three-dimensional ex vivo follicle cultures. Dr. Makanji’s research focuses on understanding early ovarian follicle development and metabolism in cows, pigs and women. In addition, Dr. Makanji is an expert in TGFbeta signaling and his research also focuses on defining the role of these growth factors during ovarian follicle development. Together, these approaches will enable the long-term culture of human primordial follicles to fertilisable eggs for fertility restoration in cancer survivors.
