It offers expertise in a wide range of pediatric specialties, including cardiac care, pulmonology, craniomaxillofacial surgery, emergency and trauma care, gastroenterology, nephrology, oncology, neurosciences, orthopedics and sports medicine – and are consistently included in the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings. The Haley Family Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children treats approximately 100 newly-diagnosed, relapsed and refractory childhood cancer patients annually. Florida is the third most populous state with over 700 newly diagnosed pediatric cancer cases each year. Due to our program’s membership in several early phase research groups, and our central geographic location within Florida, we have been able to offer patients options for clinical trials that were previously unavailable within the state. We believe this gives our children and families opportunities to continue therapy with options that are available within the family’s support network, reducing the emotional and financial burden of cancer care. Our comprehensive program at Arnold Palmer Hospital is one of the most active clinical research sites in Florida. We work with the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) only pediatric research network. We also have memberships with the Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutic Investigators’ Consortium (POETIC) and the Beat Childhood Cancer consortium (BeatCC). Our site also collaborates with other pediatric cancer centers and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We have recently been awarded a program grant to support our newly formed oncofertility program with an oncofertility nurse navigator. 2 year funding provided by Cannonball Kids cancer (CKc) . We will be using our oncofertility navigator to help families and patients apply for financial assistance and grants that are available though entities like the Livestrong foundation , Vernas Purse , Fertile Action, ect to help offset costs. We also have interest from some parent survivor groups who are interested in the program and helping other families gain access to fertility preservation.
