New article featuring an interview with Oncofertility Consortium member, Gwendolyn Quinn

Dr Quinn, from the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute and the University of South Florida, in Tampa, USA, has conducted surveys of oncologists’ referral practices. The interview covers issues such as:

  • How communication between patients and physicians is improving.
  • Why limited access to reproductive endocrinologists often restricts the provision of fertility preservation care.
  • Why there are different windows of opportunity for organising fertility preservation in men and in women
  • Why it is often appropriate to discuss fertility preservation even with patients with late-stage disease or a poor prognosis.
  • The importance of not pre-judging a patient’s interest in fertility preservation.
  • Why younger men in particular may not be interested in fertility preservation but may in later life express extreme remorse and regret at not taking it seriously.
  • The financial implications of fertility preservation care in the USA.
