The Oncofertility Consortium Global Partner, The Portuguese Centre for Fertility Preservation (Coimbra Hospital and University Centre), now has brand new facilities!
Last December, the Portuguese heath minister launched the new space for this Oncofertility Centre, to support cancer patients in the preservation of their fertility and other reproductive decisions. Prior to this centre opening, the Portuguese Centre for Fertility Preservation was based within the Reproductive Medicine Department of Coimbra Hospital and University Centre.
The opening of the new Oncofertility facility is an important achievement in Portugal. On one hand, it is an acknowledgement by the Portuguese government that this field of intervention is important and, on the other hand, it can be tailored to the specific follow-up and monitoring needed for oncofertility patients as compared to traditional infertile couples.
Information about cancer-related infertility and the fertility preservation needs to be provided to oncologists and patients, but also to the general population. Keeping this in mind, the team of the Portuguese Centre for Fertility Preservation have created a video to disseminate the message of Oncofertility, drawing attention to its importance and impact in the young cancer patients’ lives.
